Selena Gomez Felt She'd Be a Distraction From '13 Reasons Why's Message

Selena Gomez is stepping behind the camera on her latest project, 13 Reasons Why.

Recently, the actress and now producer revealed she knew she wasn’t right for the role of Hannah in the series, a role she was set for when the project was going through its’ first development.

“The older I got — once I left my series [Wizards of Waverly Place], once I started to go for roles that weren’t that age range — it organically began to become a project that I knew I would be behind the scenes with,” Selena added in a new interview with NY Times.

She adds, “I actually like that I’m not in it. To be honest, this book has such a huge following. I wanted it to be credible. If I’m a part of it, that’s going to cause a whole other conversation.”

What did that mean? That she, as Selena Gomez, would be a distraction to the message. “And I knew that.”

13 Reasons Why premieres on March 31st on Netflix.

Is 'Gilmore Girls' Coming Back Again? Find out Everything We Know!

Is 'Gilmore Girls' Coming Back Again? Find out Everything We Know!

Is it possible that the final four words in the Gilmore Girls Netflix revival weren’t the final four words at all?

Netflix’s chief content officer, Ted Serandos, reportedly told the
U.K. Press Association
that more installments could follow the revival.

“We hope [to do more.] We obviously loved the success of the show, fans loved how well it was done, it delivered what they hoped,” he said.

There are definitely fans who want answers to what many consider a cliffhanger at the end of the revival, but it’s hard to say whether Alexis Bledel, Lauren Graham and crew will want to come back for more.

Ted Sarandos cautioned that talks are in a “very preliminary” stage, and anything could happen.

Oy, with the poodles already!

'Dear White People' Netflix Trailer Has 190k Dislikes & Counting

Some people are not one bit happy about the first trailer for Netflix’s Dear White People series.

The trailer centers in on Logan Browning as Sam White, who says to her radio listeners: ‘Here’s a list of acceptable Halloween costumes.” The one she points out as not acceptable: “Me.”

The video has already gotten over 190,000 dislikes, a Twitter hashtag (#boycottNetflix), and people are even cancelling their subscriptions after being accused of racism.

Dear White People follows a group of Winchester University’s students of color as they navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age.

The series, which was announced late last year after the 2014 film of the same name, is expected to drop on April 28th on the streaming service.

The first pics from 13 Reasons Why were just unveiled and we have even more questions about them, then we did of the books!

The new pics show Hannah, Clay, and more students in the halls at school and outside.

“We’re dealing with things that are very difficult to talk about – really life or death topics – without having to start from a place of fear,” star Dylan Minnette shared about the show’s theme during the press junket today.

He adds, “Our series gets really dark in a way I think kids can recognize, but I think it’s ultimately bringing light to very difficult and dark topics in a difficult and dark time.”

13 Reasons Why, produced by Selena Gomez, will premiere on Netflix on March 31st.

Degrassi EP Discusses Syrian Refugee Characters After Donald Trump Signs Muslim Ban

Degrassi EP Discusses Syrian Refugee Characters After Donald Trump Signs Muslim Ban

President Donald Trump‘s Muslim Ban is now in effect and the entire country’s hearts are breaking over it.

Activist Malala Yousafzai wrote a brilliant statement on the ban, which prohibits those of Muslim faith from entering the United States.

It hits even further home when you watch Degrassi: Next Class and see the two Syrian refugee characters on there and what it possibly could be like for real refugees.

“I’m hoping that it’s going to put a human face on young Muslim people, because I think the rhetoric these days can be so painful and stereotypical,” showrunner Linda Schuyler shares in a new interview. “We’re trying to break down the stereotypes and encourage people to accept others; you don’t have to like every person, but please take the chance to get to know them.”

She adds, “These are living, breathing, beautiful human beings who just need an opportunity to be heard instead of judged for where they come from. I love having the opportunity to tell these kinds of stories, and that’s what has kept me going for so long with Degrassi.”
