The film follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat.
Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.
The 20-year-old singer actually met him through her Power Rangers co-star Naomi Scott!
“If it weren’t for this movie, there would not have been this shift that happened in my life. I was kind of in a place in my music, the English side — I didn’t know what I wanted to do next. Creatively, I was stuck in a box. I felt like I needed a break,” Becky told the Miami Herald. “That’s when the audition for Power Rangers came about. Then a new environment, new energy. Being around amazing people made me feel happy and excited and re-energized.”
She added, “I actually got introduced on set to my boyfriend and I’m in love. I feel like this movie is a major milestone for me and attracted nothing but great things personally and professionally.”
The 20-year-old star plays the Yellow Power Ranger in the film – and the director, Dean Israelite, revealed that the scene where the news is revealed is small but “pivotal.”
The scene happens where Trini is going through relationship problems, which one of the heroes assumes is “boyfriend problems,” but then discovers it’s “girlfriend problems.”
“For Trini, really she’s questioning a lot about who she is,” Dean told THR. “She hasn’t fully figured it out yet. I think what’s great about that scene and what that scene propels for the rest of the movie is, ‘That’s OK.’ The movie is saying, ‘That’s OK,’ and all of the kids have to own who they are and find their tribe.”
There are superheros who have represented the LGBTQ community, but it’s never been translated to the big screen.
“We had three weeks training before we started filming and there were muscles that I didn’t even realize I had that would ache,” she shared. “It was like a crash course.”
Naomi added about their stunt doubles, who were the instructors for it all: “Our stunt doubles are just incredible; some of the things that they have to do, you’re just like, ‘You are just amazing!’ And they’re not just there to be our stunt doubles, they’re there to keep us safe, they’re there to teach us choreography.”
“I think what we really enjoyed specifically was when we had to do a whole fight sequence’, she continued. ‘It’s almost like a dance, it’s like a 2-3 minute dance.”
Naomi is pictured below with her cast Ludi Lin, Dacre Montgomery, Becky G and RJ Cyler at the Mexico City premiere. Those four are also pictured at their Home & Family appearance earlier in the week.
The Power Rangers actor just shared a super hot pic of him in the upcoming movie on his Instagram, showing off just how hot he really is.
In a recent interview, it looks like Dacre has big plans in his mind for the Power Rangers franchise — including a DC crossover!
“Oh my gosh, Dacre wants the universes to collide so badly,” co-star Naomi Scott (the pink ranger), shared.
Dacre explained his theories and want for it, “There was this cool thing online recently. It was a mash-up of us and the DC Extended Universe characters on a poster, just like that one [points to a poster in the room]…we were just running at each other, you know.”
He adds, “It’d be really fun, because so many universes are coming together at the moment.”
WHAT DO YOU THINK about those universes colliding?
