“I do think Veronica’s really good for Archie,” she shared. “I know I’m biased!”
Camila also shared about just why Veronica is the better choice, over Betty.
“There are so many sweet scenes. I feel like they’re exploring this darker side of Archie, and he’s dealing with the darkness of Riverdale,” she explains. “I think Veronica plays into that. She’s seen a darker world; she’s not from Riverdale. She’s seen some shit. She’s been through shit. If anyone can help him through whatever he’s going through, it’s her.”
She adds, “She’s kind of the strength in his life—or she’s stability. She can also recognize his…I think both of them are a little bit impulsive and a little bit unstable.”
TELL JJJ: Which pairing do you like better – Archie & Betty or Archie & Veronica?
“Before I became involved with it, I wasn’t familiar with Archie at all, but I think, because of how famous the Betty and Archie thing is, I would love to see Betty and Archie get together,” KJ told Vulture. “I think it’s so iconic and everyone kind of wants that. If there was any relationship that I would ship for, it would be Archie and Betty, which is kind of a classic, iconic relationship.”
“Archie is such a mess!” Lili shared, adding, “They’re just two people who are so much better off as friends, but she doesn’t realize it just yet.”
However, Lili is definitely a fan of Archie, and even more, KJ Apa.
“I think our Archie is a lot better than the one presented in the comic books, who is just girl-crazy. But our Archie isn’t intentionally trying to hurt Betty. He’s not using these women,” she shared.
Lili adds, “He has a heart of gold, and I think people don’t appreciate Archie as much as they should on our show. He’s just a confused teenage boy, and KJ [Apa] is so good. It’s impossible to dislike him. Everyone who meets him loves him — and I think that’s a little bit of the effect Archie has on people as well.”
“I’d just come over from New Zealand, and Riverdale was my first audition,” he shared. “So I remember going to the studio, auditioning with Dave, and it was kind of nothing. Nothing was really there, nothing happened.”
But they decided to bring him in again — good choice!
“K.J. read for us and he was immediately Archie Andrews,” showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said. “It was the right combination of earnestness and edge. And he played the guitar like a dream.”
Riverdale closed their first storyline last night with writing Miss Grundy out of the picture.
After doing a little digging (emphasis on little), Betty revealed to Archie that Miss Grundy really wasn’t Miss Grundy at all, but a woman named Jennifer Gibson, who apparently likes to prey on much younger boys. She says that she was running away from an abusive relationship…but we need actual facts to believe that.
Archie did break things off with her, but as soon as she drove off at the end of the episode, she was already eyeing other guys half her age.
Riverdale isn’t the first show to have a student-teacher relationship (Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl spring to mind instantly), and it will hardly be the last — however, it was the way the story ended that has fans all riled up.
“Fight me if you want but that was a Bad way to resolve this episode,” one user wrote on Tumblr. “They let a pedophile walk free. It was bad. And they’re prob gonna leave it peen so they can bring her back later and I hate her. Her being a victim of abuse does not make what she did acceptable. She’s a pedophile. I hate her.”
Lili Reinhart is a Beronica shipper, and JJJ is loving her for it!
The Riverdale actress chatted about Betty and Veronica’s friendship that is definitely what fans are tuning in to see every week.
“I have a best friend in my life who I know is my soulmate. Betty and Veronica are two people who I think were always destined to be friends. Even though they’re so different from one another, these two people are meant to be in each other’s lives,” Lili shared about the duo’s relationship.
She adds, “B and V are a powerful, dynamic duo, and their friendship is 100 percent the heart of the show. And I love how at the end of every problem, they come back to each other.”
“They’re not enemies, and they’re not fighting over a guy,” she continued. “Maybe they did for a second, but that moment passed, and they got over it. This friendship is so much more important.”
