When we first saw Ross Lynch showing off his fighting moves on the set, we knew that Status Update was going to be hilarious.
And it is — so says Ross himself.
Speaking with Vogue, Ross opened up more about the film and working with Olivia Holt on the project.
“What was so great about that film was that we had a great script, but on set we really had the freedom to improvise,” he shares. “I like to go off the other actors in the scene, which kind of stinks when you’re acting with someone who’s not that great.”
Ross adds, “But when you have people like Olivia Holt and Markian Tarasiuk, they’re really great actors and we really feed off one another. That’s the kind of acting I love, because you’re just 100 percent in that moment.”

Ross Lynch‘s intense new movie role had an impact on his real life.
The 21-year-old actor/singer plays a serial killer in My Friend Dahmer, which is obviously a huge departure from his work on Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally.
“When I was doing the majority of the Disney stuff, I was always thinking, ‘What’s next?,’ because Disney is not forever,” Ross told Variety. “Although it was a great time and I learned extraordinary things, I knew there had to be something [else]. I didn’t want to go off the rails and started partying. When Dahmer came along, it was the perfect opportunity to really immerse myself in that role and hint at what I’d like to do in the future.”
He added, “The most I felt the role had affected me was when I got home. I realized how much was lingering. I was anti-social for a second. Generally, I’m a happy person.”
In case you missed it, Ross also recently revealed that he could return to Disney some day.

Ross Lynch isn’t forgetting about his Disney roots.
The actor, who stars in indie flick My Friend Dahmer that premiered this past week at Tribeca, revealed that he wouldn’t say no to returning to Disney — if the project was right, of course.
“If Disney would take me, I’d love to go back,” he shared with EW. “I love variety. I just love to do all sorts of work.”
Ross told JJJ the exact same thing when we spoke with him as the series finale of Austin & Ally was airing.
“Disney has all of the biggest franchises at the moment, so absolutely,” he said. “I would consider myself fortunate to work with them again.”
Maybe, an Austin & Ally reunion? We wouldn’t say no to that either.
Ross Lynch knows that he looks very much alike Jeffrey Dahmer.
The R5 musician and actor plays a young version of the serial killer in the new film, My Friend Dahmer, and confesses that he had nightmares about him after filming.
“I kept losing sleep because — in my imagination — I kept seeing him in the corner of my room,” he shares. “That was really frightening.”
Ross‘ new film is definitely a departure from his Disney days and he won’t tell his fans not to see it, however, it is much different.
“I think there’s definitely a wide range of my fan base that would enjoy it,” Ross told Variety. “I remember when the press release first came out, a lot of people on Twitter and social media were really excited. They like to see a departure, too. They like to see growth.”
He adds, “But if you’re a 10-year-old fan or a little younger, maybe this isn’t the right film for you.”
How cute do Ross Lynch and Courtney Eaton look at the My Friend Dahmer premiere?
The longtime couple hit the red carpet together for the premiere for Ross‘ newest film, with his co-star Alex Wolff, at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival.
