Zendaya is getting candid about her struggles with it, and how she overcame a lot of her fears.
“I used to struggle with anxiety pretty bad. It only happened when I sang live, not when I danced or did any other live performances, and it stemmed from a bad experience I had while singing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2013,” Z writes on her app. “It was one of my first live TV performances and my mic pack went out and I had to perform my song ‘Replay’ even though I couldn’t hear anything in my in-ear monitor. It wasn’t my best performance and I’ve never let myself live that down. I had mad anxiety ever since that.”
She continued, “I DID figure out how to bury my anxiety, though. I’ve tried focusing my energy on other things, like making movies. And I took my time and slowly built my confidence back up before I went back out on stage to sing live. Luckily, when I performed ‘Let Me Love You’ with Mario on the show ‘Greatest Hits’ last year, it went really well. It was still a little nerve wracking, but it was cool. Sometimes you just have to take a step back so things stop stressin’ you.”

Zendaya is reminding us that true beauty does not come from lipstick or mascara!
In her latest photo shoot for Vanity Fair, the Shake It Up actress got real about her views on makeup.
“To me, makeup has become more like self-expression and more of like an art form than a way to make yourself feel better about yourself,” she explained. “There’s some days where I’m like, ‘I want to be in sweatpants today, like I am not feeling it, I do not want to put makeup on.’ And then there’s some days where I’m like, ‘Yo, I’m ready to go full out right now!’”
Here’s what else Zendaya had to share with the mag:
On making her big-screen debut as Michelle, Peter Parker’s nerdy classmate, in the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming: “I auditioned, did my screen test, and waited like everyone else. It was important to me that my first movie be great – I didn’t care if I had one line.”
On her aspirations: “I have a billion dreams, and I want to use my platform to help people. I’ve been given this power and I have to start conversations that are bigger than myself.”
Zendaya is letting fans know what her favorite TV shows are!
The 20-year-old actress/singer gives us a peek at her Netflix account in this new video for her app.
“Shameless. I’m already on episode 10 of the fifth season. I can not stop watching it,” Z says. “I’m going way too fast. I hate that. You know when you watch your favorite show almost too much? To a point where you get sad because you know it’s going to end soon and you’re going to have nothing to do with your life?”
She also says, “Grey’s Anatomy. I’ve seen every single episode that ever existed.”
As for The Walking Dead, Z says, “I watched like three seasons of that and then I was just like, Yo I’m getting too stressed out. I can’t feel this kind of stress every time I watch an episode. It’s exhausting.”
